Wahpeton, North Dakota, along with its Minnesota sibling Breckenridge comprise one close-knit community. Not only do the Twin Towns share a bridge over the Red River of the North, a common ancestral heritage and a love of the outdoors, they’re both quite fond of exotic animals too. (Keep reading, we’ll explain.)

No matter what brings you to Wahpeton-Breckenridge, we’ll strive to make your stay enjoyable. All our spacious extended-stay suites feature 1 or 2 bedrooms, washer/dryer, cable TV and full kitchens. Complimentary WiFi makes it easy to check your office email or book a flight. The workday starts early. Luckily, Dakota Coffee (1101 2nd Avenue N) opens at 6:30 to pump you up with their signature coffees and hearty breakfast bites. After a long day of meetings and seminars, unwind at historic City Brew Hall (120 4th Street N) a stylish, but casual, local favorite in the reimagined old City Hall (think “brew pub meets supper club”).

Nothing around here is more than a 5- or 10-minute drive. Except for Dakota Magic Casino (dakotamagic.com), that is. But we would never encourage that sort of thing.

We hope you’ll be our guest long enough to visit the Chahinkapa Zoo, home to more than 70 animal species, including White Rhino, Red Kangaroo and Plains Zebra, originating from six continents. (Make sense now?) It’s worth a trip but call ahead (701/642-8709); the zoo maintains a seasonal schedule.
