Every population center in North Dakota (and most of the US more broadly) sprang up next to a navigable river. Founded at the nexus of the Yellowstone and Missouri Rivers, the Williston economy is now deeply embedded in the fossil fuels industry, which, along with service companies, supports hundreds of jobs. Boasting a new Airport, High School, County Administration Building, Recreation Center and planned Sanford Hospital and Clinic, Williston’s infrastructure has undergone nothing less than a metamorphosis during the last two decades of a tumultuous oil boom in North Dakota’s Bakken Shale Formation. Earlier this year plans were announced to build the largest of its kind ethane-fueled power plant near Williston. No matter what business brings you to the Williston area, we’ll strive to make your stay enjoyable. All of our spacious extended-stay suites feature 1 or 2 bedrooms, washer/dryer, cable TV and full kitchens. Complimentary WiFi makes it easy to check your office email or book a flight. The happiest happy hours happen at Williston Brewing Company (elranchowilliston.com) a local gastropub where you’ll find 40+ beers on tap and another 80 in the bottle. Both Pete’s Brewhaha (3 Main St.) and Buster’s Bar (22 Main St.) are highly regarded downtown watering holes. Ft Union Trading Post (nps.gov/fous/index.htm), a National Historic Site, was the most important fur trading post on the Upper Missouri River and well worth the 30-minute drive. But so is Links of North Dakota a premier 18-hole course nestled along the Missouri River that Golf Digest calls the state’s best.
